Movie review " Inside out"

Disney/Pixar’s film, Inside Out tells the story of 11-year-old Riley and her difficulty dealing with a family move to San Francisco. The action primarily takes place within Riley’s mind, with realistic emotions–Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust–as the main characters. Riley’s mind is shown to be vast, comprising many individual units (Imagination Land and Abstract Thought, for instance). The central location of the story is Headquarters, which corresponds to the current contents of Riley’s consciousness what she is perceiving from the world around her and what the emotions and other “mind workers” choose to show her in the form of memories or ideas. One recurring plot point is how memories can be changed when they are remembered. Although certainly some events become more negative which often memories become more positive in respect.

Riley is not handling it well on the outside because inside, the predominant setting of our story, Sadness is becoming more prevalent and more powerful. After wandering into the mind Joy follows sadness only to discover the vast amount of memories and department of Riley's mind. In search of Sadness she discovers a lot of buried treasures in her mind. How memories are created, stored and destroyed. The portrayal of a human mind is so beautiful and relatable. It makes you wonder whether such things might actually be happening in our very own brains.

Joy finds sadness and they embark on a journey to reach the central. Without Joy in command, fear and anger take charge of riley which lead her to leave her home. Riley starts experiencing bitter events in her life which totally degrade her mental state to take reckless decisions. Her parents get concerned and start worrying for her. Situation becomes out of reach and she finally breaks. Packing her bag, she leaves the house secretly without letting her parents know. Meanwhile Joy and sadness hurry to command central overcoming various obstacles. Riley sits in the bus and it takes off. Just reaching in time Joy takes over command central and makes riley aware of her doings. She asks the bus driver to stop and heads home. Reaching home her concerned parents patiently wait for her. Joy decides to make this moment with sadness and create a new memory. She hugs her parents tight and starts crying. A beautiful glimpse of why sadness is also required in life. Things get back to normal and riley starts to enjoy her new place. She makes new friends and builds new memories. The movie ends with the same characters in her parents brains. How different everyone's emotions are and how they manipulate you.

The movie overall is beautifully directed and composed. It managed to keep a constant flow throughout keeping balance between drama and humor. Depicting how the brain could hypothetically function, it creates a beautiful audience for children and adults equally. Well deserved the Academy award for the best animated movie.
